An Early Christmas

A little nice news for a change... It seems that NPR was named in Joan Kroc's will. I didn't even know that Ray Kroc ever married, much less that his widow recently died. For those that don't recognize the name...he's the one that started McDonald's...

Of course, this won't even put a pause in the local station on-air fundraising, but it's nice to know that NPR won't disappear soon due to financial woes.

Another nice surprise was to hear about Ruth Lilly's bequest to little Poetry magazine. Sure, there are plenty of "needier" causes - but they'll always get funded and $100 million wouldn't even put a dent in their bucket. But, this insures that a small Poetry magazine will live on for centuries. It's their money, they can do what they want with it. I'm glad to see that such philanthropy is directed towards something that really can make a difference.
