We're all very relieved to know that my father has finally been found. My sister kept trying his old number and once the system got back on (and he got his new phone turned on), the 'new number' message gave us the info we needed. She emailed me while she was talking to him and I forwarded the email and called her. She gave me the new number and then I called. The first thing I told him was that I had a frying pan and he needed to start running... LOL
Apparently he didn't bother to call because he thought we had already been contacted. He contacted the Red Cross and gave them my sister's and his brother's contact information. I guess the Red Cross is not used to dealing with a nation with advanced technology or something. I think they posted a note on a burro and sent it on a dirt trail.
I found out that they actually left before the storm hit. They had planned on riding out the storm in the house, but after a call from his brother, they reconsidered. He said they were out of the house in 10 minutes - and figured they'd be back in a few days. I found out that he does have a car and they *did* have homeowners and FLOOD insurance. He said that at some point he'll return to the house and salvage what he can, but thinks he's going to just chalk it all up as a loss. Once he settles with the insurance company, he's going to sell the property and buy something somewhere else. I noticed that the apartment they're currently in is waaaaaaaay inland.
