Wow, can it have been that long? I know I'm not the most active blogger on the Internet, however I was surprised to see so few posts. Okay - NO posts in the last few months. Baaaaaaaad blogger.
In the interim, I've changed jobs. In some ways, I'm a bit self-conscious about blogging while working in a corporate environment. I guess the more geeks you work with, the more likely your coworkers are to stumble across your blog and bust your nuggets about it.
Sooooo... I finally finished the next book in the 2.5 foot of reference materials for the CCIE written exam. Not so sure I'll break the 3K page barrier this year, but that's okay because it'll just boost next year's stats. Although it looks like I've done less reading this year, that's not true. What I've done less of is -completing- the books I start. It's more a lack of focus than a lack of reading. I'm mid-way through 4 books and doubt I'll finish them before year end. But it all builds on itself and eventually reaches critical mass and the stats jump.
I've been reading a LOT of switching books. Probably because my current job focuses mainly on Layer 2 rather than Layer 3 activities. And although I'm not yet a switching 'expert,' I have deepened my switching knowledge considerably. Unfortunately, it has come at the expense of my routing skills. So to stave off total extinction of routing abilites, my next set of books to read will be the Routing TCP/IP books [Vol 1 and 2 of the CCIE Professional Development Series].
I'd really like to be able to get into some of the network design books I have, but I do need to realize that any deviation from the recommended book list just pushes out the written exam that much further. I'm planning on taking it sometime in March. I wanted to take it by Christmas, but with the holidays just around the corner - nah, not happening.
So if I don't post again for a while... Happy Holidays! Keep your fingers crossed that Murphy is out of town for the season and nothing crashes. Maybe this year my New Year resolution will be to blog more. Maybe.
