And today I have completed the last of the videos on my list for CCIE Written Study. This means I have completed all the CCIE Security Advanced Technologies (69.5 hrs), SISAS (25.5 hrs), SENSS (30 hrs), SIMOS (29.5 hrs) and SITCS (18 hrs). Whew! That was a major accomplishment.
Those 5 courses were on my "to-do" list for exam preparation. I have also completed four video courses on Python, IPv6 First Hop Security, Intro to IPv6, Intro to SDN & OpenFlow, WSA Primer and ISE Primer. There are 3 more that I would like to view, but they are not "critical path" videos. Those are: IPv6 Design Foundation, Implementing Cisco ASA Firewalls, and Access-Lists: Beyond Basic and Extended.
I haven't kept track of my book reading, but there are only two books left on my list. The first is Cisco Next-Generation Security Solutions and Foundations of Modern Networking. I bought them recently and they cover some of the "newer" topics. The second one specifically covers the topics found in the "Evolving Technologies" section of the exam blueprint. I also have the ASA All-in-One book, but I've already read that one. I read it on the computer when it was still a "Rough Cuts" selection in Safari Books Online (yes, before it was printed). I'd like to scan/review that as I'm going over the 7.5 hrs of ASA videos.
So the plan seems to be falling into place. Yes, it's a lot of work. Am I over-studying? I hope so. I'd rather over-study than not study enough. The test costs $400. And I'm not sure if it's the money or the pride at this point. But, I want to be sure to pass it this time.
To keep myself from "forever" studying - I am blogging about the topics. Although it seems like it's taking forever, I'm making progress there too. I already have 24 posts completed on the blueprint. I'm on section 1.8 Wireless - right now. I am finding a growing confidence in each subject as I discuss them. It has eliminated the suspicion that maybe I missed something and should study that again... When I'm done with a topic, I'm done studying it - for this test.
And when I am done, I will schedule the exam. Next update soon!
