Holey Moley that was a lot of work! I just finished making 3 blogs "Netscape-readable." Thanks Mercy for the reminder! I've been so busy with blog templates and exporting and importing entries that I almost forgot. There's still some problem with Tracy's blog spreading across quite a bit of real estate, but it's readable with a scroll. (Read: she doesn't understand why it has to be done at all, so I'm going to work on something else until a _person_ tells her that they went to her site and had a hard time. Right now, it's "theoretical" that someone would actually use Netscape; once it becomes "actual" via a real person, it'll be the most important thing to do. Gawd, ya gotta love her.)
I'm using the same thing on my blogs as on Tracy's and mine are displaying as intended - with hers doing a "spread-out" thing. If anyone can figure out what's different (or knows how to fix it), I'd appreciate it.
You can tell I haven't been on my Linux box in a while. I've been toggling back and forth to check out the pages in Netscape and both Tracy and Spencer have said, "What's that noise?" Tracy's impressed that I'm on two computers at once...Spencer's impressed that I can make the computer make a noise with the keys. Okay...don't tell Tracy that I used two daisy-chained belkin omni view pros and was actually on 12 servers at once. She'll say, "you mean they even have daisies with computers? Don't squish them with the boots." She's a hoot. I suspect she understands alot more than she admits. I hear her on the phone giving tech support...she knows.
I still have quite a bit to go on "Netscaping" my web site. I checked out her site and for the most part, it's readable. Only the first page had some problems (now fixed). The font still looks jagged, but like I said above... My site in Netscape is a different story. I'm going to have to take a long, hard look at it over a cigarette and a few cups of coffee. It's ironic that the poetry section isn't showing up. The entire navigation menu is inop from my other puter. The irony is that the poetry section was originally created on the Linux box (in -gasp- frames).
It's a good thing that I have a dry erase board on my puter armoire. I list all my "to do" items on it...and then erase them as they get done. Lately there's been more added than erased - and it's not from a lack of me working on it. The webring cleanup is going much easier than I envisioned. I guess everything gets done in time...if you keep working at it.
Here's my list:
webrings - finish up (about 1/2 hr)
Netscape compatibility for www.artisticbluewolf.com
Geocities sites - 6 to review - one major revamp already known
Nut Nurse - 7 ideas on board to be drawn
Guestbook - need to check into putting our own up
Web Analysis - need to get program configured, ftp of logs automated and reports configured
Email - need to set up for our new domains (yeah...slacker still hasn't done that yet)
At the risk of setting up a joke... If there's anything else that someone notices that needs to be done to the sites, please mention it. I tried to be as specific as possible in that request...but I'm sure there's someone who's going to put a punch line to it...
When I was in the Army, I was giving a class on Field Sanitation to some National Guard recruits. I know better than to ask, "does anyone have any questions?" at the end of the class. This encourages someone to ask things such as "what's the meaning of life?"... You always ask "does anyone have any questions about the material I just presented?" It's now a habit to do this. Still, some kid (who amazingly sat enthralled during an hour of how to keep clean in the field) still asked, "Are you married?" As I reflex, I said...yup. My fellow drill sgt (who knew I wasn't married) looked at me strange. Then I added..."to some rich guy that doesn't know it yet..." Sometimes it just comes out that way.
