Last night I watched the movie "Dreamkeeper"... It's a very good movie about a Storyteller and an angry young boy (his grandson) who is going through a coming-of-age process. It is a very long movie with many intertwined stories.
One of the stories involves a "Wannabe" that the pair encounter on their way to the Pow-Wow... The young boy is angry and disgusted. He says, "First they stole our lands, and now they want to steal our sweatlodges..." He uses the term 'wannabe' as a pejorative term. Someone who wants, but isn't quite there... The grandfather sees it differently. He uses the same term, but without the negative connotations. "Yeah, he's a wannabe. He wanna be connected." He also said that there was a prediction long ago that white men would look on in horror as the future generations sought to find and understand what they did not understand and tried to destroy.
If you consider the history of the US... it was a very short span of time from the first settlers until the "West was Won." In that very short time period... many Native souls took flight. The exact numbers were never counted - but it is reasonable to think that there were a very large number of souls involved. Now think of these souls as a 'soul group' in the Edgar Cayce sense of the term. Just like there was a soul group who died during the Civil War, the Holocaust, 9/11... And those are only relatively recent examples. Just about any past life book you'll find will refer to groups of souls that incarnate for a common reason/goal.
Those souls died with honor while defending their land... their people... their freedom... They had a strong belief system and were connected spiritually to the Universe. It would not be hard to understand how souls like that would choose to return again when the time was 'right'... But, we don't always choose the same type of body when we return. We don't always choose the same land or culture. And it's common to find that the next lifetime chooses to see things through another's viewpoint.
So you have to wonder... how many of those 'Wannabes' are actually reincarnated souls? Perhaps they are drawn to the Native teachings due to a past life natural inclination?
Any Teacher will tell you... the student who honestly seeks with a pure heart and correct intentions will eventually find what they are searching for... Those who seek because it's trendy will only find the trend they are looking for - and will move on once the trend turns. Ignore the annoyance, for it is a distraction and will soon disappear. But, those that seek with a true heart - they cannot be ignored and will not go away. Teach them. They want to learn...
