Rune Pairs

I ran across some information in one of my journals that I felt I should put here... Each Rune has its own meaning, but there are certain combinations that tell a story of their own. Here is an example of three pairings that have a special meaning:

thurisaz.gifdagaz.gif Thurisaz and Dagaz -- Progress will be slow, but steady. It will be an occassion where you will keep yourself guarded along the way.

isa.gifansuz.gif Isa and Ansuz -- This combination brings to mind the phrase "Be still and know God"... It is a time when you need to stop and listen. Perhaps the voice of your Higher Power is that small, still, inner voice that you hear. Perhaps you will hear the message through another (like Joan of Arcadia). But you have to be still and listen in order to hear the message that is being sent your way.

mannaz.gifraidho.gif Mannaz and Raidho -- This indicates that the querent is of two minds and needs to look at the larger picture. Only by looking at the entire scope of the issue can you decide between the two.

There are a number of Rune pairs such as these. Always remember that the Runes are not just individual staves, but can be combined in ways to create new things. Think of our alphabet. Although it's only comprised of 26 letters, we can express every idea and thought with just those few letters. Also note that these are Rune pairings and not Bindrunes. In a Bindrune, the staves are combined to create a new symbol. Rune pairings speak phrases, whereas Bindrunes have a synergistic effect and are used to produce an effect.
