When the first thought came
That my immortal love from God
Had made aware her present name
I brushed it gently aside
As a fancy of spring.
When the second opinion arrived
It hit quite hard to tell
That surely fact had been derived
From knowledge sought in earnest
As an incidental thing.
When last my love was told
It was vehemently denied
My behavior for her to scold
I acted upon divine providence
And received the destined sting.
When bodies both have shed
She will at last remember
All the lives we both have led
And eternal love will be revived
Until our souls again take wing.
