Parody On Life

And even though I lost the battle
I still won the war
Why did I not feel victorious
Or even human?
I have invested myself
And came very close to
Dissecting myself
Memory by memory
But Janis said, "Don't compromise yourse,
it's all you've got."
How many times can you give
All you've got
And still have some self left?
Yet, as the last drop
Of blood or (nondescript-you know, and only you know)
Drops
You pick it up
And shake it in my face
Saying, "You dummy . . ."
(And that's a friendly pat on the heart)
Still the rain falls
Which only you and I can see
And brings us together, yet, keeps us apart
I only wanted to give you
A little corner of heaven to hold on to
(whenever times get, not rough, but, too rough)
Inside the house of hell--
That I will not claim that you have built
Nor was built for you;
Only you know why, well, that's another story
That you live in now
Please move to a better neighborhood
You have earned it
Even though it has not earned you.
