Plymouth Light (Gurnet Light)

Gurnet Light

The Plymouth Light (aka Gurnet Light) can be found in Plymouth, Massachusetts. It's not on the part of Plymouth near the Plymouth Rock and Plimouth Plantations. It's on a small spit of land that sticks out from Duxbury.

To get to the light, you have to cross the Powder Point Bridge and drive a long way down a 'limited access' road. The road is limited to 4-wheel drive vehicles. No, I don't have a 4WD...I just took my chances. The toughest part was right at the begining. There's a very high pile of loose sand that you need to make your way through. I'm sure the bottom of my car took quite a beating on that one, but once you're through that, it's not so bad. You have to go really slow since you're on a dirt road with lots of large rocks and sinkholes. Once you get to the end of that rough road, King Arthur Rd is actually a paved road. BUT...it's a private road. There's a guard shack at the entrance and you won't get too close by car. If you're lucky, the guard will let you park there for a little while and take a few photos.
