Exam study update: Chapter 9 is mine and I'm now on Chapter 10 (almost done with it). GPOs are now my friends. [GPOs are Group Policy Objects] I am now struggling RIS to the ground. I will defeat RIS! I will be victorious! I will know and understand how to use Remote Installation Service to install Win2K on any client... Watch out! You may boot up someday and I'm going to send a new operating system onto your computer...
Seriously - I need to joke to remember this stuff. I've found that if you make jokes of it, you tend to remember it a little easier. And this stuff is dry. It's not easy to get through it (and stay awake).
Those who also read Time For Your Meds [Crazy Tracy's blog] know that I recently got some new books! *does happy book dance* I got a beginner level book on PHP - which is a server side, cross-platform, HTML embedded scripting language. My first experience with PHP came out of necessity. It was a script recommended by the host of our web sites for having two domain names pointed toward the same account (we share an account). It was easy enough to adjust the script to our situation and ta-da - we have our own domains. It made me want to know more. It made me want to do more.
I also got a (beginners) book on Perl and CGI. Between the two books, I should be able to customize our web sites the way we really want them to be - without ad banners and free stuff. I think it's great that these things are offered. I recommend them highly to many people - especially people just starting out on the web. But I want more - and I want to know things. I want to be able to make my own guestbook. I want to make my own comments section - and especially to host the comments on my own site. [That way I can back up the data and it insulates me from a server crash.]
Okay...I'll admit it. I'm a scripting wannabe. I want to know how to create, edit and use scripts. I already know how to use batch files. I think batch files are the coolest things I know. But it's basic. It's simple. It's so three years ago learning. I want something new. I want new learning. I want scripting.
And the little Angel of Responsibility pops in over my shoulder..."but you're supposed to be studying for the Accelerated Exam..." Yeah, I know. So I put the two temptress tomes in plain view while I study for my exam. It's a motivator.
