Happy Thanksgiving

While I know that everyone doesn't celebrate the holiday - I wish all would take the chance to celebrate the people and things we have and be thankful for them. Thank whatever Goddess, God, gods, or other Higher Power that everyone we currently have in our lives is there - and there for a purpose. No matter what situation we find ourselves in today - be thankful it isn't worse.

Although I come from New England, I don't think I ever celebrated the "Pilgrims and Indians" type of thing. It's too far removed from our daily experience. We don't depend on crops in our backyard to eat. We depend on crops in someone else's big back yard to eat. We don't know if it's been a good harvest or not. And most of us have never known what it's like to be a stranger in a foreign land and need to rely on the kindness of others to survive a winter. We know the background story polished and presented in a 3rd grade color-in-the-worksheet type of way (history Disneyfied for our comfort). But it still doesn't exempt us from taking the opportunity to be grateful for that which we have in our lives now. When I first saw the DS9 portrayal of the Bajoran's "Gratitude Festival"... I thought - THAT's what Thanksgiving is supposed to be! Why don't we have that? Why isn't that universal all over the earth. Why don't we have an Earth holiday?

So Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it...and Happy Gratitude Day to all who don't...
