Anticipation and Participation

This year I'm finally going to do it. I've signed up for the 2003 Blogathon.

The Blogathon resembles walk-a-thons, only the sponsors donate not per mile walked, but per each hour we complete in a marathon of website updating.

The Blogathon will take place beginning 9 a.m. Eastern time on Saturday, July 26, 2003, and will continue for 24 hours. For the entirety of that time I will be staying awake to update my site with pics and poems at least once every thirty minutes. My sponsors will be pledging money either for each hour I complete, or for my completing the entire event. At the end of the event, sponsors will donate directly to GLAD.

I picked GLAD as my charity because of the work they do in New England. Their Landmark Accomplishments are the headlines we have all heard about - even if the details of those events became lost to time. Remember the kid who wanted to take his boyfriend to the prom? Remember the woman who won visitation from her partner for their son? What about the right to marry in Vermont? Yes, Pride Marches give us visibility - but, it's the legal battles that secure our rights and force the less-than-willing to treat us fairly and equitably.

The theme for this blog is "Pics and Poems." I will be posting original pics and original poems every hour, alternating between the two. All pics and poems will be shot/written during the blogathon. I've been thinking about a number of topics to shoot and write about, but the actual content will be at the mercy of the moment... I can only hope I don't degenerate into limericks in the wee hours of the morning.

I'll try my best to stay away from "pictures of my cat" and refuse to write sappy "poems from the heart"... There are a few places around Fall River that I could probably snap and upload within the allotted time frame - architecture pics and such. I'm not sure if the poems should be about the pic's topic or should steer away from the pic's topic. I'm using the time limitation and the event itself to tickle the muse and force me to the keyboard to write.

Check back on the 26th to see how I'm doing and cheer me on!

w00t! a blog i can read! i've been going through my blogs to monitor for the event, and yours is the first one that is legible and easy to read.

Thanks eliot. I'm trying to keep the blog design clean to place more emphasis on the upcoming content. I figured that if I'm posting all those pics, I didn't want them to have to compete with the blog design for eye attention...
