A Lasting First Impression

Five years of walls and fire-filled moats
I steadily built around me
And you toppled the walls instantly
With the smile of your eyes
When I first saw you at the gate

Breathless I said, "God, she's so beautiful"

Stepping over the brick debris
I walked through the rings of fire
To hold you in my arms at last
And as the world faded from view
All I desired was to melt with you

As we hugged for all too brief a moment
Embarrassed that much longer
Would become a spectacle;
Unwilling to share us with the world
And there was much more to enjoy

When we were finally alone
Exploring timidly, cautiously, patiently
Eyes filled with questions of acceptance
Until that miracle occurred
And your soft bare skin
Cut through layers of lonely
To rest warmly against mine

As you kissed away many yearnings
That my lips had only reached for
My heart beat in a rythym long-forgotten

I pushed your hand away at first attempt
For I had already given so much
Long denied and shut away
I had to be certain
That you could penetrate the innermost layer

And when all the hardness
Of every shell's layer was gone
Your hand laying upon the gentleness
Hidden deep inside my bare soul
I guided you inside me slowly and softly
And gave myself to you completely
Mind, heart, body and soul
Freely without reservation, hesitation, or expectation

My gift to you of myself
A secret chamber often vandalized
You -- the only invited guest
And you left your gentleness for me to remember you
You made your mark
And became a living legend.
