A Time For Us

I have finally won my freedom
And I wait for you
To learn the lessons of my labor
Blood, sweat and tears? No!
Heartache, work and years
As each gray hair has its own story.
Their tales leave different tastes in my mouth
News sometimes too heavy for your tender ears.
I stand in the wings
Watching the performance
Act III - Isn't this where they define "tragedy"?
The high-placed heroine with the tragic
Character flaw
Why is it that every time I look into
Those eyes
I burst into poetry (some tears, some laughter)?
As the princess stays locked in the tower
And the prince's horse stays bridled in the stall
Both waiting for a once upon a time.
