Like a Child on Christmas Eve

Like a child on Christmas Eve
I stay up and cannot sleep
Even though I know magic happens
In every little grrl's dreams
And I will awaken to presents of emails

Like a child on Christmas Eve
I shake the newsgroups
To see if you have posted
And squeal with delight
At the rumble of headers

Like a child on Christmas Eve
I surreptitiously snoop the web
To see what you have squirreled away
Knowing you have not hidden anything
But are trying to surprise me

Like a child on Christmas Eve
I sit wide-eyed before the screen
Furiously polishing my tarnished halo
Between bursts of poems and postings
Then politely balance the halo atop my horns
